Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). As a child she attended the Dragon School in Oxfordshire. Emma's goal was to be an actor. At the age of six, she joined the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch in which she was taught classes in acting, singing and dancing. As early as age ten she was involved as the lead in several Stagecoach School plays and productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone The 2001 film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Emma was discovered through Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe that they had all been through eight straight auditions. Emma's first appearance on the big screen was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which was released in 2001. The highest-grossing movie of 2001, the film set records in its first day revenue as well as the opening weekend's earnings. Critics praised the film and its performances by the three leading young actors. The Daily Telegraph in Britain and the Daily Telegraph in America, widely read the newspaper, described her performance as outstanding. Emma later won five awards in recognition of her work in the film.
